Exa Hosted Police CyberAlarm Setup

If you are going to be registering to use the Exa Hosted Police CyberAlarm, the following guide will walk you through the setup, pointing out key information that needs to be recorded to be passed over to Exa to complete the setup.

Creating a Police CyberAlarm Account

Here we will detail the process of account creation with Police CyberAlarm.

Navigate to the main CyberAlarm website at cyberalarm.police.uk and select Register/Login to begin the sign-up process.

Select No account? Create one, then follow the on-screen instructions to create the login.

For a new organisation, select Register and complete the on-screen registration flow. Use organisation details that clearly identify the customer, especially where the customer operates multiple sites.

  • If the organisation already exists and the user only needs access, select Redeem invite instead. This links the new login to the existing organisation rather than creating a duplicate organisation record.

Create the first sensor

From the Organisation panel. Three options are available. Click Set up a CyberAlarm Secure Sensor to start the process

In the Create step, enter a unique name to identify your sensor.
This is purely for identification, but Exa will recommend a pattern incorporating your Exa Customer Code and a friendly name for the site/device the sensor will be associated with. This will produce a unique label for sensors and their associated devices.

Format: Customer_Code-Site_Name-Device
Eg: CST0001-Millhouse_CoE-Firewall_1

The Installation step contains the information needed to connect the sensor. Scroll to the Manual Install section and copy the Registration Key.

Provide the Registration Key and Sensor Name to Exa Networks so the CyberAlarm instance can be completed and associated with the correct school sensor.

Important: Treat the Registration Key as sensitive setup information. Share it only through the agreed support channel and confirm the customer site, and sensor name when passing it to Exa Networks.

  • The Install screen will remain up until the sensor itself has been set up and starts sending data.

Clicking Continue will open a warning note, but the ‘configure’ section does not contain any required actions, so it is safe to click Return to Dashboard

The school's new Sensor will now be listed in the CyberAlarm Secure Sensors window

  • The sensor will show as not installed until Exa has completed the setup and logs are being sent.

You will now have completed the registration and sensor setup and will be ready to complete the Order Setup form you will have been sent. The key pieces of information that Exa will need to complete the setup and to start sending logs to Police CyberAlarm are the School Name, the unique Sensor Name and the Registration Key.
