How to allow or block URLs

This article will go over how to allow or block URLs for your filtering profiles.

Before we go into how to do this, we need to identify what profile a user is matching to, this can be done by:

Open a browser and go to status.surfprotect.co.uk, which will display the profile the user is matching to:

If the profile matched on is blank, then the user is matching to the default profile and you will see the same message as above “we're matching you to the default profile in your location”

Logging into the Panel

To allow or block a URL. You need to log into the Panel. Once logged in, you will need to select your account.

From the menu on the left, select ‘SurfProtect'

Please select the relevant profile by clicking the ‘View’ button.

Once selected, you will see:

One feature of SurfProtect is the ability to allow or block specific URLs directly through the filtering panel. This functionality ensures that any URLs added to the allow list become accessible on your network and the ones blocked aren't. Please follow the steps below to either allow or block URLs.

Allowing a website Permitted_URLs

Underneath the icon, you will see which Allowed List is currently assigned. Hovering over the icon lets you choose an alternative list (including an option to remove all category filtering), or edit the current list. Let’s look at editing a list; hover over the icon and choose ‘Edit’.

Once you've clicked Edit, you will see:

To add a URL, click the Add icon and enter the URL you want to allow

Click add and wait for the settings to sync.

Blocking a website Blocked_URLs

This follows the same steps as allowing but we select the blocked list instead.

To add a URL to this list, click the Add icon and enter the URL you want to block

Click Add and wait for the settings to sync.

HTTPS bypassesBypass_HTTPS

To allow a HTTPS bypass, you will need to in the relevant SurfProtect Profile and hover over the section and select ‘Edit’. You will see:

To add a URL to this list, click the Add icon and enter the URL you want to bypass

Click Add and wait for the settings to sync.

Verification checks:

Any changes made to SurfProtect will take effect when the settings are synced. We display a notification for when they're syncing and when they've synced.

When the settings are waiting to sync, you will see a yellow  box in the top left-hand side of the page that says ‘Out of Sync’ as per the screenshot below:

Once they've synced, you will see a green box in the top left-hand side of the page that says ‘In Sync’ as per the screenshot below
