How to run a Line Test

The line test tool is a way to test your connection, whether the connection is offline or running slower than usual. This links to directly to our suppliers' testing system.

Running a line test

Running a line test allows us to see the diagnostic information on the external line coming into your site.

To begin a line test, you will first need to log into the Exa Panel and select the site you want to run the test for. Once selected, you will see Broadband as a choice on the left-hand side, and once chosen, the line test option will then be available on the left hand side:

From the line test page, you can then hit the Run Test button, which will bring back information for the line itself.

Test results and onsite checks are explained in this guide

When experiencing slow speeds, you need to check Sync Speed Upstream and Sync Speed Downstream. These display the max speeds that the line can currently achieve on upload and download.

If the results come back with lower speeds than expected, please contact our help desk on 0345 145 1234 or helpdesk@exa.net.uk

Checking Usage

Checking usage allows us to see the current amount of bandwidth used on both upload and download. If either of these are at capacity this can cause the speeds of a network to decrease due to no bandwidth being available.

In order to check the usage you need to log into the Exa Panel, select the relevant site and choose Broadband on the left hand menu. You will then see usage as a selectable option:

For more details on how to check bandwidth metrics, follow this guide

Note: If there's a test result that is not logged, then could you please contact our Helpdesk with details on the result.
